About ICON

Ibanda Community Organization Network (ICON) is a registered charity organization headquartered in Ibanda District, Uganda. Founded in December 2019, ICON was established by a group of local stakeholders who recognized the need for community-driven solutions to the challenges facing Ibanda. With visionary leadership under the patronage of Dr. Patrick Bitature, ICON is dedicated to fostering holistic and inclusive development in the region.

Our organization operates on the belief that through collective action, we can uplift our communities and achieve sustainable growth. ICON serves as a platform for individuals, businesses, and local institutions to work together in addressing social, economic, and environmental issues.

Creation of citizen-led initiatives to contribute to the realization of the 2040 agenda through the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the National Development Plan (NDP), and the Parish Development Model (PDM) in the community.

Our Objectives

At Ibanda Community Organization Network (ICON), we are driven by a set of clear and actionable objectives aimed at improving the lives of the people of Ibanda and promoting sustainable development.   • We improve the livelihood of the people of Ibanda through business clinics, trainings, talk shows, and symposiums.
  • We encourage and promote a spirit of saving by establishing savings and investment clubs and providing financial literacy education.
  • ICON equips disadvantaged groups, such as women, children, people living with disabilities, and school dropouts, with skills and resources to generate income.
  • We actively promote Ibanda’s tourism sites, including supporting the Equator economy and hosting events like the Great African Cycling Safari.
  • ICON strengthens linkages between sectors and development actors to enhance resource utilization and collaboration.
  • We facilitate the collection, packaging, and dissemination of information among stakeholders to foster transparency and informed decision-making.

Since our inception, ICON has made significant strides in empowering the people of Ibanda. From hosting business clinics to organizing chess competitions and promoting tourism, our initiatives have directly impacted over 2,000 small and medium enterprises, students, and community members.

We’ve facilitated agribusiness dialogues, established savings clubs, and partnered with organizations like Stanbic Bank, Ibanda University, and Prudential Assurance Limited to ensure that our community thrives.

Stakeholder Engagements

At ICON, we believe that collaboration is essential for driving sustainable development in the community. Engaging with various stakeholders allows us to leverage resources, share knowledge, and collectively address the challenges faced by the people of Ibanda. Our active participation in several local organizations and forums enables us to contribute to decision-making processes and ensure that the voices of our community members are heard.

As a member of WACSOF, ICON collaborates with other civil society organizations to advocate for the rights and needs of the community. This forum provides a platform for discussing critical issues affecting the region and coordinating efforts for effective social change.

Our involvement in the IDPCC allows ICON to contribute to the planning and implementation of agricultural and production initiatives in Ibanda. This committee works towards enhancing productivity and sustainability in the agricultural sector, ensuring that local farmers receive the support they need.

Being a member of this association enables ICON to connect with local farmers and understand their challenges. Through this network, we promote best practices in farming, facilitate training, and encourage collaboration among farmers to improve agricultural outcomes.

ICON’s participation in LEDIC focuses on promoting economic growth in Ibanda District. This committee works on strategies to attract investment, create job opportunities, and enhance the overall economic landscape of the municipality. By being part of LEDIC, ICON helps advocate for initiatives that benefit local businesses and entrepreneurs.

As a member of the MDF, ICON engages with stakeholders across various sectors to discuss development priorities for Ibanda Municipal Council. This forum facilitates dialogue among community members, local government, and private sector actors to ensure that development initiatives align with the needs and aspirations of the community.
