Mindset Change
Overview: The Mindset Change Program is designed to shift the thinking of Ibanda community members and businesses toward growth, sustainability, and innovation. This initiative is built on the belief that by fostering a positive, forward-thinking mindset, individuals and enterprises can thrive, overcome challenges, and contribute to community development.
ICON partners with Stanbic Business Incubator LTD, Enterprise Uganda, Stanbic Bank, and Ibanda University to deliver hands-on business clinics, workshops, and training sessions. These events are designed to equip local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with entrepreneurial and business management skills that are crucial for success in today’s competitive landscape.
Program Goals:
- To cultivate a community of entrepreneurs who are financially literate and able to manage their businesses effectively.
- To promote sustainable business practices and entrepreneurship through education and mentorship.
- To create awareness of business opportunities and the importance of partnerships.
Topics Covered: The program covers a wide range of critical business topics, including:
- Financial Management: Learning to handle business finances, budgeting, and managing cash flow.
- Financial Literacy: Understanding the basics of finance, savings, and investment options.
- Business Opportunity Identification: Teaching participants how to identify viable business ideas and opportunities in their surroundings.
- Pricing and Costing: Educating business owners on how to price their products or services competitively while maintaining profitability.
- Sustainable and Green Businesses: Encouraging environmentally friendly business practices that not only benefit the economy but also protect the environment.
- Business Modelling: Training on how to develop effective business models that can scale and adapt to changing market conditions.
- Marketing: Equipping businesses with marketing strategies that help them reach their target audience and grow their market share.
- Home Industry Skills: Practical training sessions on how to make household products like liquid soap, toilet disinfectants, Jik, and hair shampoo.

- Over 2,000 SMEs have benefited from ICON’s business clinics, gaining the skills and knowledge they need to grow and sustain their businesses.
- Many participants have been able to start their own businesses or improve the management of their existing ones.
- ICON has helped create a network of local entrepreneurs who support and uplift each other, fostering a collaborative business environment in Ibanda.
